What ingredient in your kitchen and local restaurants is causing heart disease?

admin by admin
August 2, 2025

To help people reduce their sugar intake and weight, artificial sweeteners are used in more and more food and beverages.

Aspartame and other ingredients such as sucralose and saccharin are sweeter than sugar, but contain fewer calories. This makes them a good alternative for those with diabetes or who want to lose weight.

Artificial sweeteners are found in:

  • candy
  • cookies
  • Made-to-Order Pastries
  • soda
  • fruit juice
  • yogurt
  • Diet foods and beverages
  • low-sugar or sugar-free products

A growing body of evidence indicates that artificial sweeteners do not help in weight loss or blood glucose regulation , and may have adverse effects on your health.

Artificial Sweeteners May Lead To Weight Gain

Despite claims that low-calorie or no-calorie sweeteners can help you lose weight, research shows they have the opposite effect.

Artificial sweeteners can actually increase your appetite, which leads to you eating more and gaining more weight. These sweeteners make unhealthy foods and drinks more appealing, which can encourage you to overindulge in them and consume more calories.

Artificial sweeteners may also interfere with the gut microbiome, which is the healthy bacteria in your gut that helps you digest food and maintains your metabolism and immune systems. These sweeteners can also interfere with your ability to absorb nutrients from food. This could lead to malnutrition or weight gain.

Artificial Sweeteners Increase Heart Disease Risk

In September 2022, a study was published that showed a link between and heart disease .

The study concluded:

  • Aspartame has been linked to an increased risk of strokes.
  • Sucralose, acesulfame potassium and coronary heart disease
  • Artificial sweeteners in general are linked to an increased risk of cardiovascular disease.

The effects of these factors are likely to be related to the combination of several different factors that work together to promote inflammation, increase weight gain and reduce insulin sensitivity.

More research is required to determine the exact mechanism by which artificial sweeteners cause heart disease. However, these findings indicate that avoiding sweeteners could be an important step to protecting your heart health.

Artificial Sweeteners Could Lead to Diabetes and Cancer

Artificial sweeteners can cause diabetes and cancer.

Artificial sweeteners are not the best way to control sugar intake for people with diabetes. They may increase their risk of developing the disease .

Worse, some researchers believe that sweeteners can increase the risk of certain cancers and tumors , even though research is not conclusive.

Artificial sweeteners can also be harmful to people with migraines, diabetes, epilepsy, or pregnant women. Those in these categories are advised to limit or avoid products that contain artificial sweeteners.
