Follow these 4 tips to eat a balanced diet

How many times have you read or heard that “ you should eat a healthy balanced diet “?

This is one of the most commonly given advices about eating healthy , but what exactly does it mean?

All the Nutrients you need

It is impossible to find a single food that has all the nutrients necessary for good health. You cannot eat the exact same food over and over again and expect to stay healthy.

To get all the nutrients you need, you must eat a variety of foods.

Each day, eat the following combination:

  • Green vegetables
  • Fruits in different colors
  • Whole grains such as oatmeal, brown rice or whole wheat bread
  • Sources of protein, including fish, lean meats such as pork or poultry, beans, nuts and seeds

Eating seasonally may also be helpful. Fruits and vegetables in season are usually fresher and have more nutrients than those out of season. You can also break the habit of eating only a few meals a week by varying your seasonal menu.

Not Too Little, Not Too Much

A balanced diet includes eating a wide variety of foods that are rich in nutrients. It also involves eating the correct amount of food.

Make sure you get enough and calories to fuel your body. But not too many to cause you to gain weight.

The number of calories that you need will depend on a variety of factors including age, gender, level and type activity, as well as whether you are trying to gain, lose or maintain weight.

You should aim to consume about 2000 calories per day. However, you may require more or less depending on your needs.

Avoiding Harmful Foods

Balance your diet by being aware of what you consume. This also includes being aware of what you do not eat.

Even in small quantities, some foods and substances can be harmful to health. Some of these include:

  • Foods that are ultra-processed Snacks
  • Sugary drinks
  • Added sugars
  • Excessively salty foods
  • Trans fats
  • Saturated Fats
  • Alcohol

The foods and ingredients in question are linked to negative health outcomes such as heart disease, obesity and type 2 diabetics.

Limit your intake whenever possible. They can damage your health and take up valuable space in your diet, which could be filled with healthy fruits and vegetables.

Moreover, your brain and body can get used to the intense flavors when you eat foods that have been manufactured to be as pleasing as possible. (Using sugar, salt and unhealthy fats). When you try to eat healthier, the foods may taste bland.

If you persist, you will soon find that your palate has adjusted and you can enjoy the delicious and complex flavors of healthy foods.

Making Balance A Habit

A balanced diet is not something that you can do for a few days and then ignore. It is a habit that must be maintained and requires constant effort.

The more you practice, the easier the task becomes.

Learn new recipes and ways to prepare healthy food. You will discover new fruits, vegetables and recipes that you enjoy. You will gain a greater understanding of the effects that different foods have on your mood, energy, and overall health.

You might have difficulty sticking to your goals or feel a craving for unhealthy food when you are first trying to improve your diet. These cravings are often more about habit than hunger or need.

Your hunger and cravings will change as you continue to eat more healthily. Your body may not adapt immediately, but if you stick to a balanced, healthy diet, it will eventually adjust and begin to crave foods that make you feel good.
